About Doris Yu

Doris is a computer science graduate who, despite having never considered painting as a hobby or career, discovered a newfound love and passion for art after stumbling upon Pastel Nagomi art. Inspired by its therapeutic benefits and beauty, she decided to pursue it more seriously, eventually starting Finger Hope in 2019, a company that specializes in Pastel Nagomi art.
As an art teacher, she specialized in teaching Pastel Nagomi art to both children and elderly individuals. With a focus on mindfulness and relaxation, she provides a supportive and nurturing environment where students can explore their creative potential while improving their overall well-being.
Over the years, she has had the privilege of working with a diverse range of clients, such as Singapore Prison, Thye Hua Kwan, St Luke's ElderCare Bishan, St Andrew Nursing Home (Queenstown), HCA Oasis@Outram Day Hospice, PEACE-Connect Senior Activity Centre, People's Association, Mindef, Children's Wishing Well, Caelum Junior (Downtown East), and Sing See Soon Floral & Landscape, who have benefited from the therapeutic and calming nature of Pastel Nagomi art.
She hopes to inspire others to discover the beauty and transformative power of this unique art form.Doris is a dedicated art teacher and entrepreneur who is passionate about using her skills and knowledge to make a positive impact on the world. She hopes to inspire others to embrace their creativity, find joy in art, and improve their overall well-being.
Doris is a certified Advanced Pastel Nagomi Art Instructor awarded by the Japan Pastel Hope Art Association (JPHAA). Doris holds a Bachelor of Computing Science from Queensland University of Technology.

About Pastel Nagomi Art
Nagomi Art is a Japanese pastel art form, employing simple and unique techniques of drawing with fingers and soft pastels; to create paintings with soft and gentle tones.The Kanji character of ‘Nagomi’ is ‘和’ which means harmony. The founder, Mr Hosoya Norikatsu believes that Nagomi Art can create a sense of harmony and inner peace in the painter and for enthusiasts of this form of pastel art. It has a therapeutic nature to help uplift one’s spirit and calm the mind, waking up to the HOPE – hope that it brings health to the spirit whilst taking delight in creating a memorable piece of art.Pastel Nagomi Art is suitable for children aged 7 onwards to the elderly. Regardless of one’s experience or background in art, a wonderful piece of artwork can be realised. A modest art piece can be achieved in about 20 minutes.This lovely art form originated from Japan in 2003 and has been gaining popularity since. It is used as a form of art therapy by Japanese professionals in educational institutions and welfare organisations.
